School of Sociology · ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences
This course investigates intersections between young people, sex and consent across diverse disciplines and contexts. Relationships between sex, consent, gender, class and criminalisation are also studied as well as social and biological understandings of young people and sexual development. The course interrogates how young people and sex are thought together and apart, making links to themes in education, criminology, sociology, gender studies and public health. Methodological and ethical issues in the study of young people, sex and consent are also considered, and, the ways that they shape education and research. Attention is also focused on how young people think of themselves as sexual and gendered subjects, and, on the role of pleasure and desire in education about young people, sex and consent.
